How is it?
For kids ages 6 to age 12, sweet! It's so big and cushy, and has high sides that make it feel safe for the littles, and maneuverable enough for the bigger kids that they still have fun at higher speeds and outside the wake. I reliably get this towable outside the wake at 24 kts. In fact, with two or three adults, it's difficult to get riders back inside the wake once they get out, as their momentum swings them off the other side of the wake. Even with two or three adults (600 lbs), I've towed at 25 kts and they can clear 2 feet of air on a 1-2 foot wake. With just one kid, I'd keep the speed below 22 kts for fear of staying airborne, particularly on a windy day. While towing it empty at 30 kts, a wake will send it up in the air and it can flip, riding very stable upside down - a condition you don't want with a kid onboard.

For adults who want to join in the fun but don't want to get beaten up, this is the towable for you. You can ride with your little one and make sure they're safe without losing your balance or throwing off the handling. If you're looking for on-the-edge thrill rides or a towable that you can use to throw your riders off, this is not the tube for you - but it's still a blast, and a safer one at that!

How does it hold up?
After three years of using ours in a saltwater environment, we finally had to perform our first repair: a shell got in between the cover and the inner tube and wore a hole in it. The repair kit that came with it included two 2" x 3" patches and a little tube of goo. One half of a patch and half of the tube did a nice job fixing the hole (so the tube of goo is only half of what I think is needed for all of the patch material). After going back out, another hole cropped up where the shell had been previously lodged. Repaired that one too, and after a thorough search for other potential holes, we were confident we had the problem solved. We let the patch cure overnight, as the directions state, only to discover the following morning that the dog chewed gigantic holes in the tube.

What about the manufacturer?
The original company, Sportsstuff was purchased by another company, Kwik Tek, whose phone never picked up, and whose website only offered a fax-in form for replacement tubes, and the replacement tube for this model costs $162, with no mention of shipping costs or turnaround time. Given that this product is made in China by no doubt the same factory that originally made it (a contractor for Sevylor), I'll assume that the quality continues to be good. The lack of good support is what knocks of one star.

Since I don't know if there are other shells lurking in my cover, I'm going to take the safe route and get another one. This time, from Amazon Prime (this sucker is heavy - plan on having two people to carry it). Sorry, landfill.
