Vest are put on by lobbing over the head.---The vest uses 2 layers of nylon fabric with foam padding sandwiched inside for comfort. (This is important; some vest is made of nylon mesh or no padding. It is very uncomfortable)---24 individual weight bag fit snugly in its own strapped pocket so it does not move around while moving. Our pocket is closed with Velcro that can force the weight bag tightly into the pockets.---We uses iron ore sand that is dense and heavy - minimize the weights volume - They are double sealed. (One layer of thick plastic bag + 1 nylon bagging over it.)Note 1: Iron ore sand is different from the beach sand. Beach sand is light and made up primarily aluminum silicate. They are much lighter than iron ore sand.Note 2: Warning: 80 lb weight vest is very heavy. We do not suggest putting all 24 bags of the weights in the pockets and start your workout. If you can, I suggest get the MIR vest instead beacause the straps are easier to put on and the shoulders are not strained as much.

Hard to rate this as I've never had to really use it to save my life and I hope I never will have to use it that way. I got it as added insurance in addition to probe, beacon, shovel and buddy. I figured it would buy me extra minutes of air in case I get buried or fall into a tree well. M/L fits comfortably over my jacket (I'm male, wear L jacket, 190 lbs, 42" chest). I wear my pack over it. Along with the pack straps it leaves my chest area a bit cluttered, but I can still access my chest pockets. In order to be truly useful in an emergency it has to be fully extended and in my mouth while skiing which can be a bit distracting at first, especially while trying to yell at my friends. In a fall in deep powder, if it's not in my mouth, the mouthpiece can fill with snow rendering it useless for breathing. When breathing on it the valve makes a distracting honking sound (- 1 star for that). I recommend it for anybody going into the backcountry or trees.
