Von Zipper Feenom Goggle (Block Yellow, Yellow Chrome) Review
I have to admit that I didn't purchase these goggles from Amazon. However, I've had my Feenom's for at least 4 years now and I absolutely love them still. Here is the short breakdown:Pros:
-Excellent build quality (lasted me through 4 seasons, probably 5 - it's been so long I don't remember exactly)
-Very comfortable to wear
-Wide and tall fit to not get in the way of your peripheral vision
Cons:
-Replacement lenses can get pretty expensive
-The goggles itself is pricey given so many other choices available
-Fit might be an issue for some with smaller faces
I purchased my pair during a sale at my local store and it was a pretty hefty price even at that. But, the deciding factor in getting these was the fit. It was wide & tall which really gave me an unobstructed vision in all directions. Previously, I've had less expensive goggles from Sc0tt and Spy, which served their purpose in keeping my eyes dry and open. But the biggest issue I had was their smaller frames which just got in the way. I don't know if my head/face is the issue but I have to say these goggles were what I've been missing (I would say my hat size is some where around 7 3/8"). I know there are some other goggles out there that also has the great vision aspect of it. But I just can't seem to get myself to buy a different pair, especially when my goggles are in their excellent condition.
That brings me to my next point: Build Quality. Like I said, I can for sure say I had these for 4 years now, going on 5, and they are absolutely excellent in how they've endured the slopes during the years. Now, I feel the most problematic areas of goggles would be the lense and straps. I don't know if I've ever heard of the frame breaking for whatever reason (I'll still point out that the frame is fine and feels the same as the day I got it). As far as the lense goes, I believe it's the same for any pair of goggles, not just Feenom's. The lenses have to be taken care of, especially the chrome versions, since they tend to get scratched very easily. I definitely have some minor scratches to mine since it's been 4 years but it really will depend on the care taken. My other lense, yellow for night riding, has been fine and you really can't see the fine scratches as much since it is not chrome-material. Also, the other aspect which I point to would be the straps. My goggle's straps have remained elastic and maintain their desired length without any issues. This was not the case for my previous pair of Spy's. The strap tore during the season, which was part of the reason I looked for another one, not to mention how it lost all elasticity. I've had none of those issues and I feel I definitely got my moneys worth in these goggles.
I would definitely recommend this pair for anybody that wants a very good quality pair of goggles. It is definitely not for the price sensitive rider or smaller riders with small frames. Definitely try on a pair, if you can, and you'll see the difference in vision and fit. I'll probably keep my pair for at least another 2 seasons before I even think about getting another pair of goggles.
